Who We Work With

Start-ups & Early-Stage Companies

We help early-stage businesses build strong foundations, make the right early decisions, and prepare for scale.

The Situation

Early-stage companies operate in conditions of uncertainty, speed, and constant change. Decisions made at this stage - around strategy, structure, and leadership - have a disproportionate impact on long-term outcomes.

Many teams are moving quickly, but without the clarity or structure needed to scale effectively. Priorities shift, resources are stretched, and critical decisions are often made without the benefit of experience or external perspective.

What We Bring

How We Help

  • Define clear, actionable strategy from the outset
  • Structure scalable operating models and processes
  • Support critical early-stage decision-making
  • Prepare businesses for growth and investment

Example Focus Areas

  • Go-to-market strategy design & execution
  • Operating model design
  • Early leadership structuring

Our Approach

We work closely with founders and early teams in a hands-on, practical way. Our focus is on bringing structure, clarity, and experienced thinking to fast-moving environments.

We prioritise what matters, cut through complexity, and help ensure that early decisions set the business up for long-term success.

Typical Situations

Where We Are Usually Called In

  • 01Early traction exists, but it is not yet clear which part of it is repeatable.
  • 02The founding team is covering every function, and the gaps are becoming material.
  • 03Investor conversations require a plan the team can defend line by line.
  • 04Product, commercial and hiring decisions are being made faster than they can be reviewed.

Growth And Risk Triggers

What Prompts The Conversation

01

Preparing for or recovering from a funding round.

02

First significant hires, particularly the first commercial or operational leader.

03

Demand from a segment the business did not design for.

04

Runway shortening without a corresponding change in plan.

Leadership Questions

What Leaders Are Asking

  • 01Which of our early customers represent a repeatable market?
  • 02What should we be spending the next six months of runway proving?
  • 03What must we hire for now, and what can wait?
  • 04Which of our numbers would an investor challenge first?

How We Adapt

How The Engagement Is Shaped

  1. 01

    Short, decision-led engagements

At this stage a long programme is the wrong instrument. Work is scoped around one or two decisions and is measured in weeks.

  2. 02

    Founder-facing, not team-heavy

We work directly with the founders and are careful about the demands placed on a small team's time.

  3. 03

    Evidence over polish

The objective is a plan that survives investor challenge, not a document that presents well. We test the assumptions rather than improving their presentation.

Questions

Questions We Are Asked

Are we too early to work with an advisory firm?

Sometimes, and we will say so. Where the immediate need is to build product or talk to customers, an engagement adds cost without adding clarity. The point at which we are useful is when a genuine choice has to be made between credible options.

Do you take equity instead of fees?

Our engagements are fee-based. Being independent of the outcome is part of what makes the challenge we offer useful.

Can you help us prepare for investor diligence?

Yes, principally by testing the plan and the assumptions behind it before someone else does, and by being clear about which numbers are evidence and which are forecast.

How small an engagement will you take on?

Small, where the question is well defined. A single focused piece of work is often more valuable at this stage than a broad review.

  • Why Most Growth Strategies Fail Before They Start

Most growth plans fail not because the market isn’t there, but because the strategy lacks clarity, focus and execution discipline.
